Not Just Tasty…

The ingredients we use are carefully curated to benefit your taste buds and your overall well-being.

A hand reaching into a bag of fresh, dried chickpeas, sourced from Montana

Organic, Montana Grown Chickpeas

Chickpeas are the bread and butter, the heart and soul of everything we do at Mylk and Hummus, so we don’t skimp on our beans. Not only do these chickpeas pack in more flavor than their canned counterparts, but they are also bursting with all of the nutrients you need to thrive — high fiber, super low sodium, naturally low sugar, and protein that’ll smack you in your face.

Why go all the way to Montana for chickpeas? Our partner is a certified organic farm that produces heirloom products with big environmental initiatives. While legumes are astronomically better for our planet than animal-based proteins, our partner takes things a step further. They ensure communities have access to healthy, nutritious food while keeping their processes as safe, natural, and efficient as possible to protect our planet.

If you’re still not sure why chickpeas should be your all-time fav legume, check this out: chickpeas are what’s called a “pulse crop.” These plants pull carbon from the atmosphere to source their nitrogen, unlike cash crops such as corn and wheat which deplete our soil of precious nitrogen. Good for your body, GREAT for mitigating climate change. ✨

A small jar of extra virgin olive oil, sourced from California

California Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Did you know that olives are mostly harvested in the winter once they turn black? Apparently, it’s easier to remove them from the trees but it also results in a bland flavor. That doesn’t cut it for us. Our olive oil partner takes extra time and care into their fall harvest and locks in the full-bodied flavor with air-tight packaging. Founded on family values, they strive to produce the most antioxidant-rich oil without harming the planet along the way. Protecting their soil, reducing their carbon footprint and conserving water are just a few ways they keep tabs on their environmental impact.

Still not satisfied? Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) has been found to contain a number of active compounds that contribute to heart health, which may lead to less risk of developing heart disease and stroke. Plus, studies have found EVOO impacts cancer and Type Two Diabetes rates while optimizing bone and brain health.

Organic Flax Oil

We source our flaxseed oil from an award-winning company that goes above and beyond when it comes to protecting the integrity and nutritional value of their oil. Flax oil can be extremely finicky and fragile, quickly deteriorating and losing its powerful punch of omega-3s and other nutrients as soon as it’s pulled from its seed. The technology our partner uses to press the flax seeds and bottle up this pure gold is the level of obsession we seek out in all of our vendors.

So what’s in it for you? Nutritional magic that helps treat inflammatory diseases, ease gut problems and reduce cholesterol and blood sugar. A good dose of flax may help your skin glow, protect your brain from aging and provide numerous heart health benefits.

Tahini

It might sound like the name of a fruity, tropical cocktail, but don’t sleep on tahini. It’s one of the oldest oilseeds used for cooking and its ancient history includes a long list of medicinal uses for a variety of ailments from asthma, to blurred vision, from toothaches to abdominal pain. It has recently been found to benefit those with inflammatory conditions like diabetes and hypertension. And for our planet? It’s like a warm hug for our soil, replenishing nutrients that other crops take from it. As an added bonus, tahini produces a pleasantly nutty flavor that makes your taste buds tango.

Our source for tahini is a Detroit-based company with a passion for producing quality products that protect the planet, benefit the people who eat it, and generate wealth for the people who grow it. They’re our kind of plant people.

Beets

Our love of beets first started after my grandfather left me a 60-acre working beet farm that I run with my cousin Mose. In case you didn’t get that The Office reference, Dwight is constantly enlightening his colleagues with many reasons to love beets, and it’s easy to see why. Beets are full of nitrates, which help with blood flow, oxygen regulation, and overall stamina, so be sure to add some beet juice to your next pre-workout protein shake. They’re also brimming with antioxidants and nutrients like manganese and beta-carotene, as well as potassium and iron which boost cell production and reduce your chances of developing a chronic disease. And that’s not all… beets provide a healthy dose of fiber, can work as an aphrodisiac because of their high levels of boron, prevent dandruff, and provide plenty of folate to help minimize complications during fetal development.

Beyond their enormous health benefits, beets are incredibly sustainable to product and have a low impact on our planet.
